About Grow by Season
Grow by Season is a free planting calendar and garden planner for home gardeners in the United States.
What it does
Type your ZIP code and Grow by Season finds your USDA hardiness zone and the average frost dates of a nearby weather station with a similar climate. From those two dates it works out, for 60 vegetables, herbs and flowers, when to start seeds indoors, when to sow or plant out, and when to pick.
The garden planner uses the same dates: sketch a bed square by square, see how many plants fit, and watch the bed change month by month.
Free, without an account
Everything is free. There is no sign-up, no app to install and nothing to pay.
Your plans stay on your device
Your ZIP code, your crops and your beds are saved in your browser, on the device you use. The privacy page has the details.
Where the numbers come from
Frost dates come from NOAA's 1991–2020 climate normals for 6,653 weather stations, hardiness zones from the 2023 USDA map, and planting windows from general garden practice, written as our own numbers. The sources page explains the method. Frost dates are averages, so watch your local forecast too.
