Cool months, fall to early spring
Leafy greens, roots, peas and the cabbage family grow best when the heat breaks. Sow from fall and keep sowing through winter.
Warm months, from late winter
Tomatoes, peppers, squash, beans and summer flowers go in from late winter, and again in late summer for a fall crop.
Perennials
Plant them in the cooler months so the roots settle before summer heat.
Rhubarb are the exception: they need a cold winter to rest and seldom thrive where frost is rare.
